DIPLOMAT HJA 8703 – Drum filling with murky, smelly water

Hi,

I hope someone may be able to help. I’ve got a Diplomat HJA 8703 washer dryer in two flats on the 2nd floor of a 3 storey block. Both drums are filling with murky, smelly water about 24-48 hours after they have been used last. Both machines are just aver 2 years old, were fitted on ‘new build’ by the developers, purchased from Howdens (I think), and are plummed to drain through the sink waste pipe (above the trap).

Has anyone got any idea why this is happening, and how to stop it? The ‘drain cycle’ works, and empties the water, but after a couple of days it’s back. The water rises well above door seal level, so it’s not a small amount! There are 7 flats in the block in total. I’ve spoken to one flat on each floor below, and they haven’t got the same problem.

the water is getting in to the machine from the sink, the drain hose is too low lift it up as high as possible to prevent this from happening.

Wow suedehead1, thanks so much for that. That makes perfect sense as to where the water is coming in from!

Just a quick question (and please excuse my ignorance!), when you say lift the hose as high as possible, do you mean the end at the machine or the end at the sink? I assume you mean make the waste from the sink have to flow as uphill as possible, so create as near to a 90 degree vertical from the sink, so water flows down from the machine, but would need to flow up from the sink.
