E2 can be caused by up to 12 different faults I’m afraid but it is generally the side fill chamber. To be honest if you don’t know what’s been said here I’d advise you to get an engineer in that does as it’s not a two minute job to even explain it. 😉

Mostly the problem is caused by the appliance being installed in a closed plumbing system and not a standpipe as advised in the installation instructions. What happens is that gunk and grease from the sink etc. gets into the fill hose and flows down into the fill chamber causing the water to “lock-off” when filling. Hence the need for cleaning, or in extreme cases, replacement of the fill chamber.

If you leave your postcode area perhaps one of the guys here can help you out or alternatively you can call MFI, there is a link in the web links for MFI Service who will be able to help you.

Does this one have reset codes then, as my MFI engineer didnt say it did yesterday.

He says my panel has gone after he fitted my new thermostat, and the machine still gave an E3 code. He said no heat was getting to the element, therefore new panel required. I still dont know wether to have this done at about £140 ish.Appliance about 3 years old, but i suppose still cheaper than a new one, but if its only gone this long i am not so sure. MFI branded appliances do only tend to last a few years for some reason.

I haven’t a clue about the Module problem in question lolly as I do not deal with this brand. I feel sure the rest of the guys on here will answer it in due course. But my thoughts at this stage are, that I would give little credence to those ‘engineers’ that have ripped you off so far, their ‘diagnosis’ very suspect. If it is true what they say and that the Module Panel IS faulty??? then it can possibly be repaired/reconditioned by one of the trades brilliant electronic wizards, namely: Q.E.R or HJM Electronics. They repair and replace components on the board and return it like new for a fraction of the cost!

It will be interesting to see what my collegues add to this? But hang on to your machine a while longer, I reckon all is not lost.

Thanks Martin for your kind words.

I know for sure that the first engineer did rip me off although he was only £22. Its my fault because i didnt want to pay MFI really, although i have in the end. However, i find it strange that he didnt even look at the control panel to test it or anything. I could have told HIM that the heat wasnt getting to the element, after all thats what the code E3 meant!!

Although there is a possibility that the panel is beyond help but i am very very doubtful.

Strange though, but the first engineer who came DID look and put his meter on the pcb and said that the heat exchanger thingy was ok, and i looked at the board, and no sign of any burn marks.

My faith has just gone in this and i just dont know what to think now.
I think the engineer should have tested the panel really, i mean is there a way of saying yes it definitely is faulty. Should i phone MFI back and say that i am not happy with what the engineer said. I dont want to rattle any cages…..but i mean £65 and 20 minutes. The control panel is working up to 40 minutes till its time to heat the water.

    Any feedback greatly received.

    Thanks Lads,

    Lolly

    kwatt,

You were right about the dishwasher being in a closed plumbing system. We checked the drain hose and found a lot of stinky gunk in the connector to the trap so goodness knows how much muck is elsewhere in the system. The previous owners had never cleaned the filter in the bottom of the dishwasher either…

We can check the side fill chamber, but if anyone in the area can help out, I am in the SS12 0HE area.

    Cheers 😛

HI, could Bonzaco who helped out please help me out too. My machine is giving the same error code and displaying the same symptoms and I’ve not been able to get through on the MFI customer service line for three days it’s always engaged or unmanned. Thanks for any help you may be able to give. Jill

This is an e2 fault, the dishwasher is made by Smeg. You can easily sort the problem out by putting 2 plastic cable ties together, so that you have in effect a long one, and remove the cylinder filter and main metal base filter (no tools required, all done inside wash chamber).

Next, look for black rubber flap in sump area, open or remove the flap, insert the cable tie (square end first) all the way to the end and vigorously move back and forward and a load of gunk will come out and break up.

When you restart the machine, hey presto, it works!

In severe cases, the side fill chamber would need replacing but I find the above method works 90 percent of the time!
