Diplomat – need fault fixing, not bought from MFI

I bought an integrated fridge freezer, model number HJA6013 4 weeks ago but it has already stopped working. Called the service number given 08457 959722 (Extracare?) but recorded message only says that MFI are in adminstration and to contact your insurers but I bought the product from Howdens. Howdens are closed now over Xmas so I have a fridge freezer not working and no way I can log a service call to get it fixed. I called MFI customer service line but they could not help.

Is Extracare also gone under along with MFI?

Any idea how I can get a call through to Extracare to get it fixed, any other number available?

Can I invoke the Sale of Goods Act as the fridge freezer is only 4 weeks old and ask Howdens for an immediate replacement rather than a repair?

I am very miffed as I will need to pull out fridge freezer from integrated cupboard etc and food is being chucked out.

Hi Molly,

Yes, Howdens sold a lot of Diplomat and Hygena as they were at one time owned by MFI, a partnership that only completely broke off shortly before MFI entered into administration from what I know. Service was handled by Extracare up until that point which was owned by MFI.

As far as I am aware Howdens now use Stoves service for their products but, I expect, that you will have to contact Howdens to arrange for a service call.

Whether or not Howdens will give you a new one or not is up to them, I can’t speak for them but a replacement is not an automatic right that you have under the SOG act.

In any event I would doubt that you will get anywhere before the new year by the sounds of it. 🙁

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Luckily I have a camping fridge and a very cold conservatory – must be the only person praying for continuing cold weather!!
