We have the above dark blue enamel gas hob fitted in our kitchen which is now very tired and requires replacement.

I have searched high and low for a similar gas hob (58x51cm) in dark blue on the Internet but to no avail. Gas hobs now only seem to be produced in white or stainless steel.

We have considered replacing all the parts (burners, ignition, knobs etc.) but the cost would be greater than purchasing new and replacing.

Perhaps you would be so kind as to answer the following questions for me:

    1) Are colours other than white and S/S now impossible to get?
    2) How does S/S compare with enamel for cleaning?
    3) What gas hob would you reccommend as a replacement?

    Kind regards,

    Trevor

as far as im aware, stoves were one of the last to produce blue appliances, however might be worth speaking to sparkwork on 01626 834666

they were having a bit of a hob clear out a week ago. might still have somethign available?

but yes, black white or s/s are now seem to be the only colours being produced at a reasonable cost. even brown is pretty much discontinued everywhere, and the handful of companys who would still manufacture appliances in different colours have gone on a temporary production hiatus until the economic downturn shows a marked and significant upturn. even black and white appliance production runs had been reduced by major brands, which caused temporary shortages on stock!

there are gas in glass hobs available, but they are mainly black, and a couple of white ones.

as far as i know anything in blue is likely to be well and truly discontinued anyway, so its worth remembering spares will be more restricted than a current model anyway. and it might be worth considering first whether a black white or s/s oven would look best, prior to any hob purchase, in case (im assuming you have a matching blue diplomat oven) the oven gives up soon after youve spent a lot of time and effort tracking down and then fitting a blue hob.

in which case, say if you then buy a s/s hob it would then be easy to tie in any future oven purchase because you can get a s/s oven to match!

    Hi Trevor

If blue is the colour you need then you would be wise to have your current hob repaired as long as it is considered to be “safe”.

IIRC Smeg were the last manufacturer to produce a coloured dry powder coat range, sadly they stopped a few years ago probably due to low volume sales and the stampede for stainless steel around that time.

You can still have some colour choice options in ovens and hobs albeit not blue. Hotpoint and Neff both produce black, white and brown appliances.

Sparkworld in Newton Abbot on gandh1 phone number tend to get end of line and graded appliances, so they might be worth a call.

    HTH 🙂
