ParticipantOriginal fault reported was it trips RCD after 10 minutes.
On initial callout, I checked pretty much everything, except for continuity checking every single cable – all I could find was a bit of soot on the pins of the connection to the thin black wire for the door interlock on the module.
Replaced door interlock, then sat and watched it through a complete cycle and all was fine.
Next day she phoned me and told me it had tripped again.Replaced module with one from EMW and put on another new door interlock, just in case, then sat and watched it through another complete cycle – all was fine again.
Following day she phones me up again – it has tripped again! 👿
She says it’s only tripping when the machine’s warmed up – after I left, she put it on a wash and when it was ramping up for the first spin, out it went.
She reset RCD and put machine on again, but it tripped RCD again straight away. She tried this a couple of times and it kept tripping the RCD.
Following morning she tried it again and it didn’t trip the RCD until it was well into its cycle. It had had a chance to cool down, I suppose. What next? ❓
It’s a 3-phase motor, which I don’t know much about, I’m afraid. I insulation checked it, though, and it was fine, but I’m suspecting the fault lies there somehow.
Anyone got any pointers or technical info, pleeeeeease?
Many thanks, in advance,

Could be chaffed insulation on a cable intermittently shorting to earth whilst machine is moving. Check all cable anchor points where this may be happening.
Intermittent ones are always the worst.January 31, 2011 at 5:51 pm #343065leavemetogetonwithit

Any sign of water dripping onto motor?

Mike. Not whilst I was there, but it didn’t trip whilst I was there, either!
I’ll definitely have a close look for that, though, along with looking for chafed insulation.
Going again to see it on Thursday, so I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks,

Thanks, Gordy.
I’m pretty sure I checked it last time, but not for fine cracks, I didn’t.
I’ll give it a good looking at on Thursday.February 3, 2011 at 8:04 pm #343069Pigpen4

The prize goes to Mike, for his winning suggestion of water dripping onto the motor. :worthy:
The inlet pipe that branches from both hot and cold to the dispenser had chafed on the spring and worn a tiny hole in itself.
Just need to source a replacement pipe now.
Thanks everyone.
