ParticipantI am currently wrangling with Currys to give me my money back for the large pile of rubbish I bought five months ago called a Kenwood KDW12SS.
IF I do succeed, can anyone recommend a good, reliable, washes glasses well, economical, quiet, non white dishwasher for sub £500?
Please help – this has taught me a lesson in why currys sells things off cheap.

KeymasterDecent Bosch machine, Smeg, Neff and after that you’re into Meile territory. There’s not a lot else to choose from out there IMO that’s truly good.
By the way, I believe that that machine is a Haier in disguise which is from China and they also make for many, many other brands as well. 😉

AEG is owned by Electrolux whcih also owns Zanussi and Tricity bendix as well as Parkinson Cowan. To my knowledge there’s a big common spares bin.
Siemens (and Neff) are the upmarket brand for BSH Group which incorporates Bosch, Neff, Siemens and Gaggenau. Again, it’s not hard to figure that there’s a lot of commonality in the components used. Do watch though as some of the cheaper ones are made in Spain and are reputedly not as good as the German made ones.
Hope that helps.

Ok, my choice is either AEG F60870M or Bosch SGS45E68.
Both seem pretty similar – what I’m most interested in is which cleans the best and is reliable?
Any recommendations.?

There isn’t much between them really, personally I would go with the Bosch.
As for cleaning performance, if you ensure a good quality powder is used and a seperate good quality rinse aid, set the water hardness/salt settings correctly you will be OK 🙂

I am also trying to do the same with a Kenwood Dishwasher from Curry’s. We have had six sets of drawer lifters which seem to break every 4 weeks and now its leaking steam like a boiling kettle and it has damaged the new work top, diswasher door and the door on the unit next to it. All this in under six months. Their engineer is saying that the appliance was fitted wrong. Thats a load of rubbish!!! Whats wrong with yours. We are in Solihull West Midlands. 👿

Top drawer hinges kept breaking – then the door broke.
I kicked up a major fuss and got it swapped for a Bosch. (had to pay £100 more – but the Bosch is fantastic!!) I have learnt my lesson and will never compromise quality for cost.
The Bosch is the SGS45E68GB – ultra quiet (you can have it on while eating), ultra clean (not one dirty glass when the Kenwood just used to move the dirt around a bit rather than clean), and ultra fast – the quick 29 min cycle cleans the plates, cutlery & glasses spotless.
Thankyou for making me go through the hassle of upgrading. Good luck to all others – just do it!

My Kenwood dishwasher from Currys didn’t even make three weeks! Door catch faulty and a unit inside was leaking according to the engineer who came out. He was thoroughly dismissive of the things…really crappy quality. As someone who knew nothing about them, I foolishly relied on the brand name when buying…and then found out they’ve nothing to do with Kenwood!
Avoid !!!

Get the engineers. You are under warranty. Do NOT under any circumstances admit that you have attempted any repair yourself.

I was repairing a microwave in a customer’s house recently and in the kitchen a cheap (but very new) Italian dishwasher was running .
I was shocked at the amount of noise being produced! 😯
I refrained from mentioning the racket to the customer for fear of being accused of “slagging off” other brands of appliance.
Customers should look beyond the price ticket.Buy in haste – repent at leisure! :lesson:
