Dishwasher and washing machine struggling to drain together

we have a Hotpoint washing machine (WMFUG 842) and Lamona slimline dishwasher (LAM8301) that have been working happily together for seven years. However, the last couple of times they have been on together, they seem to have had trouble draining – the washer threw up a fault indicating a problem draining waste water and the dishwasher must have filled too high above the bottom door seal and flooded the floor.

We managed to drain both of them independently, checked all filters and pumps as per manufacturer’s instructions (all clear), and put both on a clean cycle.

Both appliances drain into the kitchen sink drain, and all associated piping and fittings under the sink have been checked – all clear.

They both work independently, the problem seems to only occur when they are switched on together, which has only recently started to happen.
