Dishwasher cutting out

My dishwasher does not work properly. It’s currently 2 days old and switches itself off then on, then off, etc, etc. Each time it resets the time so it will not complete if I leave it to it’s own devices.

There are only three connections: 1) inlet water pipe, 2) waste paper, and 3) electric.

It’s not the waste as I’ve had that disconnected and running to a bucket. Most of the time the programme doesn’t get far enough through for water to be flushed anyway.

Therefore, it’s either electrics or inlet water.

I’m not sure if the cold water is from a tank or mains. If it’s from a tank that could explain it as there could be a pressure problem.

Haven’t a clue how to check the electrics as this is an intermittent fault.

Also, I had exactly the same problem with a previous dishwasher which died after 3 months. The engineer at the time said it was the machine but couldn’t repar it – hardly surprising.

My current washer is a Bosch and the previous was a Whirlpool.

Anyone had any experience of this?

Jason,
It sounds like a dodgy socket TBH. The computer will reset every time the supply is interupted, so it will never get anywhere. Try connecting to a different socket if possible. If using an extension lead, make sure it’s rated at 13amp.

Have you tried plugging it in to a different socket Jason ?

It sounds as if the current connection is dodgy to me.

Excellent. Thanks for the quick responses.

I’ll try a different socket which will have to be via an extension lead – when I can get a 13 amp one that is 🙁

OK, since pulling out the isolator fuse and pushing it back in, all has worked fine.

There was a grinding type sound when I pulled out the fuse caused by the plaster presumably from when the isolator was installed.

After the washer had successfully completed 2 washes, I had another look. One end of the fuse was grey and matted and I think it was making a poor contact.

It is now cleaned and hopefully all will be fine.

If not, I’ll be back.

Another thought to consider……..If your machine has a seperate fuseable isolation switch, it may then mean that the dishwasher also plugs into a seperate 13amp wall socket directly behind the machine. Usually in those instances the plugtop over the years sticks to the tacky insulation material on the back of the dishwasher. Therefore whenever the dishwasher door is opened and closed the vibration pulls the 13amp plug out of the socket slightly and it switches off all by itself!!!!

I think I’ve pushed this new machine as back as far as it will go so it could happen.
