I now know it was a stupid thing to do, but last night I put some washing up liquid into my 8 yr old General Domestic Appliances built in BF50 Dishwasher to try and clean it.

After a night of bailing out bubbles and a morning of sluicing it out I feel that all the bubbles have finally gone… phew!

However it now seems to be stuck mid-cycle and is just pumping the water around the machine, not pumping it down the drain. I used a syphen to get as much of the water out as possible and then shut the door again, it still continues to try and pump the water around even though there is hardly any in there and does not try to fill it at all.

Any ideas of how I can fix it anyone??

It might help if you pour a couple of pints of water into it and then put on cold rins/drain,you may have to do thi several times to flush soap out.Even a crushed dishwasher tablet in the water might help as they have a suds suppresant.
Did the suds meet you at the front door ? 🙂

Oh yes… they made a bid for freedom as soon as I opened it up!! one good thing… my kitchen floor has never looked so clean!!

I have filled, run and syphened out the suds about 10 times now.. my husband took the filter off when he came home and it looked pretty grimey, but even after cleaning everything in sight and hand filling it with warm water, it is still just circulating the water as if it is in the middle of the cycle. It looks for all the world like it has just got stuck mid-cycle.

Do you know of anyway to re-set a dishwasher because even after turning it off at the wall overnight it just started up at what seems like the same point in the cycle that it left off the day before.

    Thanks for your help..

UNPLUG first, take off the bottom front cover, two screws hold it at the top and then you have to lever up the bottom edge with a screwdriver, you may have to take the decor/wooden door off to get to the screws,it can be done with the door fully open but there isn’t much room to get under it.
The timer sits at the bottom LH corner, lots of wires going to it,there is a short 1/4 ” shaft on the timer with a star screwdriver shape fitting in the end ,on this shaft is a small arrow, turn the shaft clockwise which will click until the arrow is at 12 0 clock, then try your machine again.
There may be a possibilty that a safety thermostat may have operated so if it doesn’t heat when you test it you will need further advice.
