ParticipantHello all,
I am in a rental accomdation. New build about 18 months old. Been here 1 year. MFI for all the appliances and 3 of the 4 have something wrong with them I think.
The service company I was supposed to call wants £100 per appliance to come out, ie £300 to just walk through my door. Then parts on top.
There is no guarantee that our landlord will reimburse us for this.
I have done the repais@ search and the only 3 that come up for SK17 0DL are in stockport and won’t come out to us.
The dishwasher is HJA 8630. When it is turned on, it goes for about 3 mins and then cuts out at the main breaker board. I loose everything as it switches it all off. Checked the fuse in the wall socket ( dishwasher is hardwired in) and it reads find on the multimeter. Turn the breaker board back on, turn the wall switch back on, turn dishwasher back on, 4 mins later it all cuts out again.
The filters have been cleaned every week for the whole year we have been here. It was run two times per week. WE tried to look at the sump, we can feel it and that feels clear but we can’t actually get the dishwasher out from under the counter.
I was told about checking the inlet for kinks, but this hasn’t been moved since we got here and I fail to see how kink could suddenly appear. Next the outlet. Well I cant’ really check that either, however I checked the connection into the drain and that is clear. Not sure how else to check the actual tube to see if that is clear or not.
Any advice how to check the outlet being clear ?
Then advice about a repair person !!!
Thanks

hi if it cuts out with in 3 mins , my sugestion would be check the heater or motor . try machine on rinse if it has that programme as it runs on cold only , if it runs through whole programme u know the motor will be ok and its likelty to be the heater/element.
i doub,t it would be kinked pipes if it fills and it drains then pipes will be ok, hold down the prgramme button to cancel the programme and the machine will drain and or pick new programme and machine will drain so you can see if it drains, allso a leak could cause it u can unscrew bottom front plate to see if any water is in baseJuly 13, 2009 at 7:38 pm #291947Sarah

Thank you for the reply.
I will do the checks you mentioned. There is only a prerinse that doesn’t use heat.
The third time we tried it Ithink it went for about 15 minutes and then cause the breaker to flip off.
Checked the front already when looking for the sump and there are not any leaks.
I don’t know about draining because all the water remained in the dishwasher when it cut out so we had to hand remove the water. YUCK

Sarah please be carefull if the appliance is tripping the mains has a serious safety fault which can only be checked with the right test instrument that we call a “Megger” a multimeter is the wrong test instrument.
You really need to get a “pro” out to it, try the yellow pages or ask around your friends or neighbours, most independant engineers only charge in the region of £40-50
By the way the appliance should really be wired with a 13amp plug, it came with one 😉 and it guarantees safe isolation if requiredJuly 13, 2009 at 8:38 pm #291949Sarah

ok I have run the prerinse and it went the 15 minutes with out stopping or cutting the main breaker out.
No leaks and it drained out.. yippee…
so heater right ? or still possible it is the electronics board ?

Maltheviking..
thanks for the information. My husband tested the 13amp fuse from the wall switch that it is hardwired into with the multimeter NOT the dishwasher itself.
He is an electronic / test engineer so he knows that we have a serious safety fault because of it tripping the mains.
Since it went the full pre rinse cycle without incident then we are looking at a heater right ?
Because of where we live I am struggling trying to get anyone out here. Also I am being told that “independant ” engineers are struggling to get the parts for MFI / HOwden appliances. That they couple of companies that took over the service /parts for MFI are charging and arm and a leg for parts and service.. well £100 call is fits in that category nicely.

Hi Sarah
Your appliance I believe is a”Beko” so spares should not be to much a problem.
It does look to being a heater fault, it would be first thing that I would check if I was repairing it 😉
I don’t think that the heater will be in use in the Pre-wash, generally just a cold rinse. If it has PCB then your other half needs to look for a “dry joint” if he is a test engineer he should know what I am saying, good luck.
Safety first, mains off
