Problem with Dishwasher – at the start of cycle, the washer begins to fill (you can hear the valve click & water flow) – but at the same time, the ’empty pump’ cyles on & off – say every few seconds!
The end result is a lack of water in the unit which then leaves a pretty much un-dissolved tablet in the Cutlery Tray!

This symptom has been getting worse & worse – in other words, the machine seems to take on less & less water as time goes on! 😕

If you force fill th emachine with water (saucepan or 2 thru the door), then the washer washes OK – but I have feeling that exactly the same water starvation ocurrs during the rinse cycle!

    Thanks for the info.

Removed the RH side panel and watched as the system was filling.

Basically, the water feed to the washer pump housing was blocked.
As a consequence, as the water flow was enabled, the restricted flow to the internal of the machine forced the overflow to trip, and then the empty pump would trigger, the water level would receed, the trip would reset and the pump would stop!

It was this cycling which was strangling the machine of water.

I dismantled the matrix assembly & cleaned out the pipe with a bottle brush and now it works a treat. 😆

Only question I have now is why does the clean water inlet get fouled up??

Many thanks again – great site.

Its normally caused by too much food residue being left on plates – its fairly important to ensure you rinse all crockery before you place them in the dishwasher. It can also occur if you run too many ‘quick’ washes and not enough ‘hot’ cycles

But you shouldn’t have to rinse: that is the whole point of owning a modern dishwasher. Therefore, it stands to reason that there is a ‘design limitation’.

If the manufacturers could build in a ‘self-flushing transfer-tube’ feature, it would save everyone, engineers and consumers included, a great deal of hassle.

Would such a feature be feasible?
