    Hello,

My Hotpoint FDM550 dishwasher kept blowing its plug fuse at random intervals. I traced it to blackening on the mains suppressor which I replaced.

All was ok for two weeks but now the fuse is blowing again. The suppressor is now blackened like the old one. When I change the fuse and plug it in with the machine lying down so I can see inside, there is sparking in the suppressor as if it’s shorting out although I can’t see any obvious leaks where moisture is getting in. Could I have got two faulty suppressors on the trot?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated before I scrap it for a new machine.

    Cheers,
    Mike.

Don’t scrap the machine, it would work without a suppressor but its not advised, they are to prevent interference/spikes with electronic devices like hi-fi, tvs radio etc.

Its not an expensive part but they are prone to blowing.

Has the mains lead got a moulded plug? if it has change it to a normal rewirable plug and change the suppressor again, the moulded plugs can develop internal faults and can cause suppressor faults its more common than you would think! “Q”

Good tip, thanks very much. Yes the plug is moulded, I’ll give it a try.

Had loads of bekos and hja(howden) dishwashers with dodgy moulded plugs, as a rule if its low i just cut plug off and change it
