ParticipantGuys / Gals, please could you assist me..
I have a defy dishwasher, and this works only when the door is open. If i plug it in, turn on the power, and leave the front switch (on the machine) in the off position, power is fine. If i turn on the switch when the door is open, then no tripping, close the door, and power goes out.
I have stripped the machine and the door and the cables are not broken or no evident sign of water or broken / freyed cables.
i have removed both side panels, and bottom panel, inspected each wire, and not sign of aging or damage. Can’t identify any leakage.
Whether the machine is hot or cold, symptoms remain. Door closed, and power on, it trips, door open and power on, power remains fine.

DEFY dishwasher, can’t say I have heard of that one but a model number plus any other info from the rating plate would help.
If you don’t have access to a megger or suitable multimeter and know how to test all of the components for insulation etc then it’s time to call the cavalry.
It appears you may be posting from S Africa, also a quick Google throws up DEFY machines on .za web sites.
Someone may know who actually makes these. 😕

you would not believe this, however there is no scuff plate / rating plate. the only serial number available is on the control computer board, which is S/N: 20060371910.
this is a Defy Dishmaid Premium, and i am in south Africa. I have an available multimeter, and know how to test for insulation. i have not done this yet.

Just had a quick look at the DEFY web site, there are pdf manuals available, not a great deal of tech info but it some of them do look a bit like a Whirlpool machine.
The rating plates for dishwashers are often found down the side of the inner door panel.
You need to check out each and every component for earth faults, the heater and main motor are good places to start, then its just a process of elimination.

thank you.. just revisited the machine. The machine only trips power when the door is closed. in my LIMITED knowledge of electrical devices, it almost stands to reason that the door switch could be faulty. there is a large purple power cable running from the main power switch to the door clip switch and then smaller (2x) power cables running to the rest of the control computers / machine. If i remove the crocodile clip from the door switch – ei main power switch, there does seem to be heat damage to the male connector.
also serial number on main door is : SN SS J 00035643

That number doesn’t ring any bells with me, it’s possible someone else may have an idea. The fact that it only trips when the door is closed does not mean that it is certain be the door switch. Until the door is closed the power will only be going to the on/off switch on most machines, as soon as it is closed several components could be in circuit if a programme is selected.
