Dishwasher Virgin needs help with a Baumatic please !!

Hi there,

I have just moved into a rented house and it has a Baumatic dishwasher (not sure of model number as the manual is at home, but I could add this later).

I have never used a dishwasher before, so bought some all in one tabs and my first 2 washes were perfect. When I tried to do my third wash last night, the washer sounded like it was starting for a minute or so, but then stopped and there was just a low humming noise.

The “Add Salt” and “Add Rinse Aid” lights are both lit, but I presumed as I was using all in one tabs that I would not have to add these ? Could this stop a washer from functioning ??

Everything is loaded correctly in the racks, I’ve cleaned out the filter and can’t see anything else wrong.

Sorry for the lack of info, but I’ve never used a dishwasher before !!

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

“Low humming noise” would normally indicate the pump in jammed. 🙁

Salt and Rinse Aid lights not an issue in this by the way.

Is that something that I (a DIY spastic !!) could look at, or do you reckon I should just call the landlord ?

Hi Martin,

Just another quick question if you don’t mind pal.

The place where you add the salt, should this be full of water ?
I opened it last night and it was full to the brim.

Ooh dear not such a great machine in the grand scheme if things so let your landlord deal with the problem, leave well alone. And yes the salt reservoir should be full of water prior to refilling it with either salt granules or tablets. Most of the water will spill out once it’s topped up. But don’t attempt that until it’s fixed because salt lying in the machine is very corrosive!
