dishwasher/washing machine connection help please

hello – can someone help please?

I have a washing machine & dishwasher connected to the same coldwater inlet via one of those Y-piece jobbies….

This is the second one we’ve had & both of them have leaked straightaway…. (both been plastic which is all I can find…..)

What are we doing wrong? would PTFE tape help?

Y-pieces are notorious for leaking, especially where you have high water pressure IME. I don’t entirely trust them but, in some cases, you just have to use them.

There are (or were) brass ones available but it’s ages since I went looking for one.

Have you put a washer in the part of the Y piece that you screw to the isolation valve??

….and make sure you don’t over-tighten it….they are very flimsy things generally 😉

sorry – didn’t mean to be so rude as to not reply & say thank you 😳

am pretty sure it hasn’t been over-tightened & no – haven’t put it on the wrong way round (how would you do that? 😕 )

used ptfe tape but didn’t work – am resigned to having a dish underneath to catch the drips :rolls: 😆

now to work out what’s wrong with the washing machine :sigh:

Bosch do a very good Y-connector, made of a very thick and solid plastic. It is by far the best Y-connector I have used.
