Useful info here. http://tinyurl.com/2lonzc
If you have eliminated all possibilties and the fault has appeared suddenly then you may have a failure in the regeneration system within the machine.

Jim – yes I was wondering about the regeneration thing, it did start suddenly but I noticed also we were very low on salt when it started, I have filled up with salt but still no change after a number of washes.
Do you know if there are specific parts to do with the regeneration that could have failed and need replacing or are clogged up say ? I believe some machines have a button to reset the regeneration but there isn’t one on ours.
Would I be able to replace a part that is resonsible for the regeneration ? I put the model no. in the first post.
Thanks Steve

Gegsy, Boro & BSH man amongst others are our resident Bosch experts. Hopefully they will see this thread. If the resin in the regeneration unit has become gunged up then it is not possible to clear this, several other posibiltities such as regeneration valve failure etc.
Can you post the Enr number from the rating plate, that is essential for correct identification.
Jim.

The rating plate is usually engraved along the top inner edge or down the right hand side of the door.

Looks like undesolved detergent to me? That would be caused by water starvation (i.e blocked water level sensor or sump hose?).
You can easily eliminate the salt and regeneration theory as I guess those deposits don’t taste salty at all do they? 😕

Jim – I’ve posted a photo of the plate at :
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/barfblog/gra … G_3121.JPG
Looks like the E-Nr number is SGS5312GB/12. Hope this is
useful to your resident Bosch experts Gegsy, Boro & BSH man .Martin – thanks for your input, all help is welcome.
Listening to the machine I can hear the water being
sprayed from the rotating arms.
Also, my understanding of the regeneration process is that it
introduces salt to the system to soften the water, if it wasn’t
working then salt would NOT be introduced to the system so the deposits
would not taste salty, does that make sense ? I did
try tasting the white deposits and it was pretty tasteless,
not soapy or salty. I believe lime can be left if the softener
is not working, not sure if lime has a taste.March 28, 2007 at 10:51 pm #209087kwatt

Which detergents are you using?
Do you use Rinse Aid?
Have you tried running through ‘Finish Dishwasher Cleaner’?

Trilobite – we normally use Ecover dishwasher tablets + rinseaid, the dishwasher has worked since new (7 years) on this.
Since the problem started we’ve tried :
Finish tablets, Calgon, and done a Dishwasher Clean (not sure if that was
Finish or not).Seems more like something has gone wrong or changed. I was hoping someone had seen something similar before.

I hate to say this, but Ecover is not all it is cracked up to be. I and other members of my family experienced problems with the dishwasher detergent and rinse-aid. Other posters have previously had deposits appearing in their machines. My recommendation is to use well known brand names such as Finish or Fairy.
You say you have used CALGON: in the UK this is merely a water softening agent, to be added to washing machines in hard water areas.
The Bosch machine mentions “Finish und Calgonit”. “CALGONIT” is the foreign name for “FINISH”, and should not be confused with “Calgon”.
Worldwide, some countries call “Finish” a different name again: “Neophos” and “Electrasol”.

Trilobite – thanks for that, I agree with what you say and if
I was responsible for the dishes I would use Finish,
but as we have a sceptic tank and her indoors tries to be
green we use Ecover. But I think this is getting off the point.
Please could the experts Gegsy, Boro & BSH man comment on
the points raised so far before we fork out on a new one or a repair or
I blindly take the machine to bits. At the moment I havn’t got
a plan of action and need some help.1) Jim said “If the resin in the regeneration unit has become gunged up then it is not possible to clear this, several other posibiltities such as regeneration valve failure etc. “
2) Martin said “Looks like undesolved detergent to me? That would be caused by water starvation (i.e blocked water level sensor or sump hose?). “
3) The deposits don’t taste particularly salty, what is it ?

All talk of Calgon and Ecover is doing my head in, your machine needs servicing, hoses and pressure chambers cleaning etc. You may like to click on the link below for a local engineer to sort it? 😉

Martin – thanks, looks like I’ll have to do that.
This site seemed to offer simple solutions (unblock this pipe, fix that dry joint) which saved a bit of money.
Is there nothing I can try myself ? Whats the best way into the machine to check the blocked water level sensor or sump hose as you suggest.
