Gegsy,
Thanks for that, the pipe from the metering unit was almost, maybe completely blocked, this has cleaned up like new. So has the antiflood/pressure unit, we’ve even cleared the water matrix apart from a couple of small black marks in the most inaccessible corners, the red valve now moves freely.I havn’t been able to clean the centre pipe 3 in the picture below
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/barfblog/gra … mbered.jpg
but to be honest it’s only a light coating on the inside for the first 6 inches. Is it possible to take the bottom of the machine off, I’ve hesitated from doing this in case it all falls to bits, looks like it’s held on by 4 screws.
There is a slight bit of staining on the top of the salt container.
Is there anything else worth doing while I’ve got it open ?

I think you have cleaned as much as you can.
If the top left of water matrix is black then you may have to renew it.Greg

Gegsy,
All back together, no leaks, water pumping round matrix fine. But bit of a blow – NO HEAT !! I did have the water supply off momentarily at the start of the cycle, not sure if this would cut it out for the cycle. Can you suggest how to test the heater ? Is there a thermostat that can be tested ?
Is the heater the white oval part as shown here top right ?

Hi
Yes the oval shaped part.
With the power off and using a multimeter, you should have between the red and the two white wire terminals app 30 ohms.Greg

Greg,
The resistance between the left terminal (red lead) and the right terminal (green & white lead) is 23 ohms, there is no reading between the left terminal (red lead)and the central terminal ( 2 leads – red and white + purple and white).
I’ve posted a clearer picture :

Hi
Thats a better pic 🙂
Between red and green/white is correct and 23 ohms is acceptible.Greg

Greg,
Thanks, any idea why the water isn’t heating then ? I did a normal wash (65 degrees) and checked the water pumped out after the wash and rinse phases. I also opened the door during the wash cycle to check the temp.

Hi
With appliance unplugged, I would check to see if there is a burnt out pin on the relay pcb half of the module in the door. Re solder if depleted and re-test.Greg

Greg,
OK, got the pcb from behind the settings buttons (Intensive, Normal, Eco etc) and there is a burnt out pin :http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/barfblog/gra … G_3251.JPG
Is this the one you suspected ? If so my soldering prowess is not exactly factory standard, is there a neat way of soldering this joint without unsoldering the adjacent joints and melting the board ?

Ok
We have found the problem. You only need to clean up the area around that pin to enable a good resolder joint.
Perhaps a local TV repair shop would oblige for a small fee?? Rather than damage the board.Greg

Greg,
Well I bit the bullet, soldered the joint myself and hey presto – hot water!!Over the weekend I gave the whole machine a thorough clean – urgh!
the amount of grot kind of puts you off having a dishwasher though,
especially round the door seal and in the tubes to the spray heads. The hardest thing to shift was the grey coating over everything,
in particlar the racking.
My cure-all solution to cleaning stubborn dirt in awkward places
is the pressure washer – but this proved useless, it had no effect
at point blank range even though it can strip paint off concrete.
Yet, curiously the coating does come off with a gentle rub of the thumb.
This all had to be meticulously sponged off, there must be an easier way.Well thanks once again for all your help.
I would be grateful if you had time if you
could answer a few more questions :1) It seems you can open and close the door and then resume the
program by pressing the On button, is there a time limit
after which pressing the button will not resume the program?2) Is there a way to end the cycle part way through and
pump out the machine, eg if you just wanted to test
that the water was heating ?3) If the heater or motor had to be replaced,
can this be done in situ or does the bottom come off ?4) Where is the resin that is involved in the softening process ?
5) Does the bottom connector for the spray arms fit like this
with the outer edge under the grill :http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/barfblog/gra … _3201M.JPG
not like this with the outer edge over the grill :
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/barfblog/gra … _3202M.JPG
6) Does the upper spray arm part fit like this with the hard
plastic oval against the feed tube like this :http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/barfblog/gra … _3203M.JPG
and the soft piece on top of that :
