ParticipantHi
Ive a small kitchen but ive had so much trouble with my tabletop one, thou its 8ish years old now.
Im thinking of getting a slimline one and knocking out a cupboard for it, the easier cupboard is one thats nearly the other side of the kitchen I would have to run the pipes behind the oven through a ‘L’ shaped cupboard and through the sink cupboard to the connections.
I wanted to ask do dishwashers work ok if the inlet hose and the drainage hose are lengthy? I see on ebay people sell extension things so screw 2 hoses together to make the length.
just wanted to check before i get a dishwasher.
thanks

It would give us a better idea if you give us the approximate distance you intend to route the pipes. 😉

Approx 11ft each pipe would have to be.
heres a rough picture so u can see what i have in mind 🙂

if u think it would work ok, a slimline should fit underneath the worktop with the cupboard out.
the cupboard right of the oven goes to the far wall so be difficult to take out just that part.
Thats the only space the other side is the same L shaped cupboard like the one right of the oven then a large tall cupboard then the door.
hope that helps.

I have seen machines installed this distance away but it is really at the very limit of the drain pumps ability.
Why not approach it from the opposite angle. Rather than feeding an outlet pipe all round the back of the units, why not feed a suitable piece of rigid plastic plumbing round the back and finish up near the dishwasher.
I always say”you should take the plumbing to the machine, not the machine to the plumbing” 😉

Correct, the incoming water pressure will depend on your mains supply but the drain pump that empties the machine is not designed to pump such long distances, it would possibly just about manage it but it would be far better if you can take a fixed drain pipe to the machine TBH.

ParticipantWith such a long hose laying flat as well , there could be future probs with the hose blocking with food/fat deposits .

Thats a good point too.
I may see if i can get it in the cupboard right of oven, i may be able to take out the whole bottom of cupboard and the back of the cupboard, then it should fit there.
thanks

in theory you can have your hose as long as you like subject to the following.
you would need to route the hose vertically next to the machine and then run it gently downwards to your plumbing outlet. by doing this the pump will only be pumping a head of water to bench height. when it stops running this amount of water will be retained but the surplus will run away due to gravity as if it was in a rigid pipe as suggested.
running the hose along the floor and up at the sink end is NOT a good idea because the pump would have to push an entire hosefull of water whenever it starts up. plus as has already been suggested it will clog up with gunge.August 31, 2009 at 6:51 pm #295608LadyQuake

hi
im trying to decide what one to get now lol
want to get one in about 2 weeks time. Its a toss-up beween
Beko DE2541F White Slimline (Argos)
and
Hotpoint SDW60P slimline (Tescos)as they are in my price range and have salt/rinse aid indicators, as ill forget otherwise.
Beko seems to have much better reviews than Hotpoint one.

The Hotpoint one may well be an Indesit made in China, the Beko is made in Turkey, possibly better than the other but not by much. If you can find a Zanussi within your price range that may be a better option or hold out until you can get a Bosch.
Don is the man in the know though, hopefully he will advise you.

Buy cheap – buy twice. You’ll save nothing in the long term.

Couldn’t agree more.
And, if you do get a cheap one and the service engineer has to scrabble around removing cookers and allsorts or sees pipes way in excess of the norm, don’t be surprised if he walks away from it as a bad installation.
Slimline dishwashers are, in most repairer’s opinion, right up there with washer dryers. We don’t like them much and any excuse to walk away from it is a good one. I can count on one hand the slimlines that are okay, with fingers to spare. None that are any good are within your budget.
Integrated ones are just evil.
£200 buys a lot of Fairy liquid. 😉
Oh and the jointing kits you see on Ebay, they leak. We use them as a last resort only due to that and, it’s why we don’t sell them.
The drain is your problem though, I wouldn’t recommend anything in excess of 2.5M from the pump or you’re just asking for trouble.
If that is your actual kitchen, I’d recommend a Bosch table top (the only one worth bothering with) above the washer and you’re sorted so long as you don’t need a larger capacity.
