ParticipantThree calls already this week from folks who have ordered parts and then decided they don’t fancy having a go.
Sign of the times perhaps ?October 12, 2010 at 7:34 am #332620cornwell40

Mind you, with some of the customers I’ve had recently, I’ve felt like that!!

Got to fit a zanussi door seal today for a single mother who ordered the part then lost her bottle, maybe she was being a tad optimisic ❓

To be fair this is partly the fault of people selling spares implying that anyone and their dog can strip a machine down.
Went to one the other day – Hotpoint Aquarius. Customer said he’d told Comet he didn’t have any tools but asked if they were easy top fit. Comet person told him no problem, just pushes into place :rolls:.
To be fair, he’d managed to get the one on off with a table knife but when he proudly showed he “how far he’d got” putting the new one on..! He was a buit peeved when I took it all off again.

One was a hotpoint/creda free standing cooker with the twin grill elements one of which was not working, the one that was, was hanging down between the brackets with cracks showing the insulation.
He’d ordered one,so got a sale out of that,bonus 🙂
Second one a HTPT WT 761,”door seal to fit”drum looked decidedly low through door, suspension retainer had come out, suspension spring behind soap draw assembly broken, motor virtually on the floor!straight forward diy job!October 13, 2010 at 1:11 am #332624gandh1

local radio last weekend (97.0 fm) had a money saving expert extolling the unlawful attitudes of all repair companies charging between 90-120 quid + parts to fit a new oven element. which would take according to him, under 10 minutes to do. he likened our trade to car salespeople who would put sawdust in the gearbox. im sure this is litagus, but his name was never mentioned so i canny follow this up.
but apparently his referral site would fix everything by allowing the hopeful diy owner to purchase an element for about £30, and on average saving themselves an average of £100 on most repairs…
talk about shameless self promotion, if there wasnt an ounce of humanity in me, like there wasnt in this guy, id be hoping for a PR nightmare of one of his customers electrocuting themselves following his knowledgeable advice. at no stage was there a caring warning to “please make sure the appliance is suitably isolated or better still disconnected from the mains before atempting a repair!”
bloody cowboys…
