Do tumble dryers use induction/brushless motors?

Better washing machines seem to make a point of saying they have induction motors. Most dryers don’t seem to say either way. Searching here I see that a number of dryers definitely do or did have them, what about current models? Is it not as important as the weight of the load is not as heavy? Or do they have them and just not mention it? I would have thought simialr benefits as espoused for the wasihing machines would apply to the dryers. Just wondered if it was something to consider.

All tumble driers have induction motors because brushes on a motor spark against the armature. On a washing machine this is fine, but on a tumble dryer it would set fire to the lint that collects inside the machine casing, causing a fire.

I concur with odom on the induction motor bit used in all tumble dryers. A brush driven motor is not a requirement for a tumble dryer in that they simply turn a large drum with an equally large drive belt with subsequent low torque that only a induction motor can provide.

The bit about sparks, lint and fluff by odom adds a certain melodramatic twist within his reply I must admit. But rest assured ’twas never thus in all things tumble dryers anyway. 😉 🙂
