    Hi there,
Im doing a piece of research for a logistics company, and need to find out if white goods manufacturers keep any stock at a warehouse or delivery centre. I know that stock is kept for spare parts, but am unsure about newly produced goods.

The motive behind the research is to learn more about the supply chain for the direct despatch of white goods and what drives the performance of this.

If anyone has any other information on white good distribution (e.g. carriers etc) it would be most helpful.

    Many thanks!

In so far as I know they all keep stock at a central location, maybe several if that’s what’s needed. Each has their own way of dealing with logistics, some even have their own transportation.

Whirlpool used to use Paddock Wood as their incoming appliance depot. Unloaded straight from the train into the warehouse. I seem to remember they could have 90,000 appliances stored in there.

However when we were trying to buy one through their Product exchange….they were constantly out of stock.

Don’t know about the distribution of the appliances though.

Merloni, which includes Hotpoint – Indesit – Ariston – Cannon – Creda and a few other brands use a third party logistics company called Fixt to deliver to all the Independants, I’m not sure how they deliver to the sheds though to be honest. I believe they have localised distribution points, Don may enlighten more on this.
