Is that the reason you gave the customer for leaving it like that? “free and easy access” for cleaning? I notice it looks like it’s still connected up ready to run lol

I’m with Martin on this one. Everything is accessible by simply lifting off the tub. Not a drip on the floor. From this picture, I would say Martin took less than 20 minutes to rebuild..

Yeah, about 20 mins to reassemble it and slot it back into place. 😉
(As the machine had a mystery leak it took me a good 30 mins to realise I would have to strip it down to fix it. In this case the circulating pump ‘O” ring was leaking but didn’t show up circulating cold water. Only when the water got warmer did it start to leak. I originally thought it must be the carbon faced shaft seal but that was fine but as you know the ‘O’ ring comes as an impellor kit so I stuck the lot in anyway! 🙂 )

I’ve had that seal leaking too. It throws you a bit as it only leaks when the circ pumps stops as it’s on the negative pressure bit.

Indeed so Bob!
Imagine with a tricky fault like that to figure out and you wanted to turn it upside down to get at the motor? 😕
There would be so much water all over the place by then you would’nt have a scooby doo where it was leaking?

Hi folks.
I used to be a topsy turvey upside down sort of person, but I have seen the light, yes I am converted, I always lift the tub off now, certainly on this model, its so much easier and in the eyes of the customer, much more professional. I have also had good success lately in chasing these sort of leaks by running the machine with red food colouring inside, then looking for the tell tale bloodstains!. Look out for the pin hole leaks in the stainless steel around the salt filler, had several of those.

Anybody got a long term fix for this problem?

Move North, I have never seen a hole in any of this type of machine in any of its many guises. Nice soft water, don’t need salt. 8)

Two parts, one stick – cut, fondle until warm and splat. 😯

The Comet engineers only have about 20 minutes per job! That’s why they’ll whip it upside down, take off the bottom panel and get to the motor in minutes.
A different attitude and different methods are forced on some engineers. It all depends on work load and time pressures. As an independent engineer, it’s far prefferable to do a job “propery”, strip it down (and charge accordingly) – but as an engineer working for a multiple or manufacturer, who is often under so much pressure it should be illegal, things are often very different.
