Does a washing machine ‘need’ hot water or will it heat the water itself if it isn’t hot enough, basically can I put a washing machine were ther is only cold water, and just connect both the hot water and cold water inlets to cold, I have no idea about this so if I am being stupid please tell me

    Thanks

No it does not “need” hot water, but it may need a “Y-piece” fitted to give two cold feeds in effect instead.

Hot fill is actually pretty much useless in a modern automatic IMO anyway.

All you need is a simple “Y” connector  that is readily available from local spare parts suppliers and possibly from our own shop@ part of the site 🙂

Next question, how much water does an average machine use per wash, I’m thinking about how to get rid of the waste now

Between 55 & 75 litres of water per completed wash ❗

Indeed it is, therefore the very latest machines available today are usually under 50 litres, for obvious reasons 🙂

But you did ask for the average and therefore much older machines (like my 20 year old Bosch @ over 75 litres) are well over the top. But Hey! I’m on main drains and therefore recycling my waste water back to where it came from anyway :rotfl:
