A customer has just bought in one of these for our musuem 😯 while clearing the loft in preperation for a house move.

Burco wshing machine model MW2 serial 122001 in superb condition and with tongs too. Timer still works and no visible rust either.

Any idea how old anyone ❓

I thought they were quite old, but there are a few on E-bay

Try this one then, this even beats me. One for the old Gas Board engineers I fancy.

    Re: Does anyone remember these?

Didn’t Burco make a drying ‘cupboard’? It was pre-tumble dryer, was like a box with an element in the bottom and you hung clothes in it.
    How sad am I? 😳
I can remember changing the butterfly type element in the bottom of these boilers though, with a single nut type fixing and a fibre washer that leaked most of the time 😡
At a guess i’d say they were around in the sixtys as my mum used to boil my step sisters terry nappys in one with napisan, and the eldest is in her mid 40’s now!
Take it down the WRVS and tell ’em its a tea urn!!!!!!!!! 😈
Talking of old machines, i’m still running a KEYMATIC.

Are you thinking of the famous Flatley dryer. http://tinyurl.com/ylsbfc

We had one at home, one of John Bloom’s ( remember Rolls Rapide twin tubs ) ventures. I can remember being at school and seeing the light aircraft towing a banner with MUM WANTS A FLATLEY on it. 😀

    Re: Does anyone remember these?

I have one of these buried somewhere in my workshop and didn’t like to throw it out. Also I found a box of old Burco twin tub spares the other day and for a long time used to use an old paddle drive shaft to drift out bearings. :rolling:

    Re: Does anyone remember these?

My mother had a Burco wash boiler in the early’60s. I was too young to remember much about it but I always assumed it only heated and didn’t agitate. I had someone ask me for a tea urn tap last week but I could not find such a thing in any of my catalogues.

I still have some spares kicking about for the rolls twintub. Also got some bits of the old Hoover sloping front keymatic and the old hotpoint twin with the glass spinlid if anyone goes back that far :rolls:
