ParticipantMy Hotpoint dryer is being recalled due to fire-risk.
Whirlpool emailed me a link offering: free replacement vented/condenser dryer, upgrade vented/condenser, a nominal refund, or a repair.
I want the free replacement vented dryer but it’s out of stock. Customer service said they don’t know when it will be restocked and that I must check the link at 09:30 every day.
My concern is that Whirlpool will never restock. I’ve read articles about customers having bad experiences waiting for Whirlpool to restock models they’re offering for recalled washers and dryers.

Do Whirlpool ever actually restock replacements offered for recall?

ParticipantUnfortunately I don’t think you can hold them to supplying a free replacement given the other options on offer that I would say fulfil their obligations surrounding the recall. It is pretty cheeky of them to expect you to have to check daily for stock though as I don’t see why their systems couldn’t deal with that.

ParticipantI’ll wait a couple of months in the hope that they’ll restock though I’m not optimistic.

Google search indicates the model is available in the UK in Argos and numerous other stores listed by Price Spy.

Thanks. The model number is FETV60CP.
I’m based in the Republic of Ireland though it’s Hotpoint UK who I’ve been speaking with and who are facilitating the recall.

ModeratorAll but a couple of top end dryers are out of stock of the 43 models they usually carry. Your dryer like most others are delivery not known as you can see from the screenshot.
Most manufacturers are not placing dryers as life essential appliances so they come last in the production queue. Cooking and refrigeration are first followed by washing machines, dryers and dishwashers. It’s not just our industry that is struggling after the pandemic. Building trades are really struggling as are retailers and DIY chains.
As you are wanting the replacement I’m afraid like others you will have to play the waiting game.

Thanks for the context regarding the state and priority of production.
These are the models on offer. The free options are out of stock. The non-free options are in stock.
I wonder if they’ll soon run out of the non-free options too.

Not sure what to make of it.
Whirlpool claim the other free option, the condenser, is also out of stock but the two non-free options are in stock.

ModeratorThe cost of 85 Euros is still very cheap for a brand new dryer.
You also have to remember the use you have had from your current one. I personally paid the extra and up graded to a new one which also came with a new twelve month guarantee.

ParticipantThey only produce tumble dryers at Yate don’t they? Nothing else to prioritise unless they furloughed lots of workers.

ParticipantI checked the link this morning and the free replacement option was back in stock. I’ve ordered it.
Your replacement dryer will be delivered in the next 21 days.
Includes delivery, collection of your affected dryer, connection of your new dryer, and 12 months warranty.
Your appliance will be delivered by a third party logistics company which is based in ROI and who are acting on our behalf.

ParticipantI’m reporting back to confirm that the replacement dryer was delivered last Monday, so that’s 2 weeks since it was ordered or 3 weeks since I registered the recall. Contrary to my initial concern, the recall process was very prompt.
