ParticipantThe “DOOR LOCKED” indicator light flashes after the programme is selected and start is pressed. The programme does not start. I checked the door interlock switch and it appeared to work, but not knowing what to do I replaced it anyway as it was cheap, (Hotpoint 1604781). The door catch is fine and moves the interlock switch. Immediately prior to this the washing machine during a cycle, blew the trip switch on the house consumer unit, it reset ok.
Any ideas?May 17, 2005 at 9:51 pm #135030iadom

Original door lock may have failed and damaged the control board/module. More than likely the cause of the circuit breaker tripping as well.
Several other possible causes for this as well.

The origional door lock also appeared to function, i.e. it clicked ok and when I opened the switch all appeared normal. I replaced it only because the door locked light was flashing.
Any more information on repair/ replacement of the control board / module would be appreciated. Is it servicable? Which part should I be looking at?

The modules cannot be repaired, but there are other reasons than the door lock that could cause them to fail. It is not really possible to go into any great detail within the limits of a forum. It would be unwise to go ahead and change a very expensive circuit board without determining the cause of failure. The board may not be faulty or you could damage the new board, modules can become very costly fuses.
It may be wise to look.
hereAlso, if your appliance is under 5 years old your parts are covered by manufacturers g/tee. you will only (only, sorry about that 😥 ) pay the £90 labour charge even if it transpires that a faulty motor has damaged the module.

Got Hotpoint Engineer out under 5 year parts warranty. He replaced the control module(1604321) which had blown apparenty caused by a broken wire.

It is always nice when someone posts about the outcome of their problem.
I don’t know about the other tradesmen here but sometimes the really awkward faults can have you reaching for a medicinal nightcap to allow you to sleep. ( not that this was a difficult one). It is nice to know what the fault was, even those of us who are a bit ( a lot ) long in the tooth are still learning, and something new is always around the corner. 🙂
Thanks.
Jim.
