Door seal lip repair?

Got two Miele door seals to do next week. Both about 3 y o machines. W304 and W504. Both have small tear in lower lip due to zips (?). Have ordered a pattern seal for the W304 which is £31 plus the usual trade.
The W504 has only genuine part listed and there’s barely any discount on SSP. (Around £60 plus the usual). I already did this one about a year ago for same fault. It’s in a residential home and gets a pounding so they can afford to pay but it would be nice to offer them an alternative route to Miele rip-off prices.
Has anybody tried repairing this sort of tear by any means, fair or foul, and had any success?

I wouldn’t attempt a repair like that. The oly way to fix it is with a new seal 😀 Steve

I presume you cant rotate it? Not too familiar with Miele..The Highlanders are too tight to buy them 😉

Have put pattern ones on Mieles but they’re not the same quality & don’t last. Tears on the bottom door seals are common with them i find though for some reason.

Now got a call to do same job on a Samsung P1453. He’s blaming the dog!
I looked it up and it’s £64 SRP or £58 incl vat trade. I suggested he get the part himself and I’ll fit it. He’s happy to do that and it saves me having to secure the money from him first. And he knows it’s not me who makes the part so expensive.
This seems to be becoming a common problem but I don’t recall having many door seals do this in the past.
Any thoughts?

its due to the increase in the size of the doors. more chance of the piled up washing inside falling forward and getting trapped un noticed between glass and rubber, the first turn of the drum and it snatches the item free and causes the damage. Probably the only reason I change door seals these days (or mouldy ones I guess) as they dont seem to get the rotten holes in them anymore.

Certainly sounds plausible. Don’t know how long you’d have to sit watching to confirm it though.

A wee while ago I posted about Bosch door seals having a nick out of them around the six to eight o’clock position.

BSH man came back saying this has been happening since Bosch introduced the big doors. Have fitted quite a few, good work to.

Had customers tell me about attempted repairs and the most succesful method seems to be bike inner tube repair patch stuck on with superglue.

Swopped brushes on a dead indesit recently, I think it was a wd41 which had the door seal mended in this fashion and the customer said it had been like that for over a year with no problems 😯

I’ve often used bike patches to repair holes until a new seal arrives. I use the normal rubber solution and sew them in place. Never thought of trying superglue. I’ll give it a try next time. I thought the seal lip would be difficult to get right.
I got a new seal for the nursing home Miele and brought the old one home to try and repair. (Several weeks ago and haven’t taken it out of the bag yet. 😳 )
