Yesterday in the middle of doing my first ever 90 degree wash my 2 week old Indesit WIDL-126-UK exploded, sparks, bangs, clouds of smoke the whole 9 yards 🙄 , took out not only the breakers to this flat but the breakers to the other 6 flats in this building. Plugging it back in just produces a relay clicking no other lights.

John Lewis Direct have apologised and said they will swap in a replacement asap when their stock comes in on the 19th

Only problem is the damn thing is full of water, I have bailed out as much as I can but that model doesnt have an emergency drain hose 😥 I called Indesit this morning their technical desk told me to disconnect the drain hose lay it flat on the floor and it would drain into a bucket….that produced about a pint of water.

When I called them back they said to unscrew the plug on the pump, that would drain the water………yeah…..straight onto and through my wood floors and down into the flat below. I can see the water level its just below the level of the drum so I estimate that there is about 6-8 pints of water in there.

Anyone got any suggestions as I really dont want to be the person that either floods the flats below or drowns the stairwell when JLP come round to swap out a machine thats full of wather.

Indesit meant for you to remove the pump filter. tilt the machine back against a wall then prise off the plastic ‘kickstrip’ at the bottom, front of the machine. Behind this you will find the pump filter. if you place a pan or bowl under this, followed by a few towels you will be able to drain the machine.

PS. Try and get them to change for something of better quality, pay a little more if you can afford it, you will be the winner in the long run if you do. 😉

Thanks for that tip, worked like a charm 🙂

I would have gone for a better machine, this one replaces a Bosch Washer Dryer that lasted 8 years, but my income is very much reduced these days thanks to going from £60K a year as an Electronics Buyer down to disablement and Incapacity Benefit thanks to one of my old firms customers exposing me to a bio-hazard. 😥

So that was the best I could afford, though I am currently looking at JLP’s website and seeing if I can get a straight washer for the same money I paid for that Indesit as I am not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} comfortable with having a machine that explodes in the kitchen.

BTW, what are your thoughts on using Washing Soda in machines as I was advised to add a small amount into washes to act as a degreasing agent because of this way the rather nasty bug I had spreads.

Washing Soda’s primary purpose is indeed in shifting grease, however it is NOT recommended for regular use in washing machines, even diluted. It is also quite corrosive towards the aluminium alloy fixings most machines contain (inner drum supports can corrode badly).

It is an irritant and can bleach clothing if you are not careful. 🙁

I would suggest using washing soda very sparingly once in a while if you must though there are better alternatives. Such as using Ariel Tablets (with bleach for whites) Ariel Colour Tablets for the rest. Following the correct dosage together with the correct programme selection will be all you need. Carry out a ‘service wash’ every month or 2 will also help keep your machine clear of bacteria build-up. (that’s a 90 degree wash with detergent but without any washing).

Wipe the door seal every time you have finished using the machine, clean in the nooks and crannies mind!

    Hope that helps?

Thanks, I used to use Ariel but switched a few months back to Waitrose’s Own Brand which I think its about the best on the market.

How wrong you are though I would’nt wish to put you off your faith in Waitrose products of course 😉

Is it cheaper??? I wonder why??? 🙄

I went off Ariel for one very good reason, the supermarkets I shop at delisted the powder and liquid in favour of the tablets and the liquitabs and what powder they did have was the smallest box size at “top whack” prices.

I found the “replacment” tablets bloody awful, they never disolved right when either put in the drawer or the wash and the only way to get them to disolve was to put them in a plastic bag and hit it with the steak hammer until I got powder, the liquitabs were even worse and I had very little control over how much detergent I was using in a hard water area.

After trying a few other brands I found Waitrose’s own brand cleaned the best in the water for this area, but if one of the supermarkets starts stocking Ariel powder again I will go back to using it.

Powder is fine but the new Ariel tablets dissolve without any problems. I use them in the dispenser drawer and being in a bungalow with a header tank in the loft do not have a very high hot water pressure. The tablet flushes in even better than powder. I say tablet because in this very soft water area, one tablet is plenty.

They might work fine in soft water, they dont desolve right in hard water in a cold fill only machine 🙄 only way I could stop them leaving white powder marks on my blue shirts was to break up the tablets in a plastic bag with a steak hammer.

How long is it since you last tried them, the tests and demonstrations I have seen recently used cold water and the Ariel tablets dissolved very rapidly.
The only reasons I prefer them to powder are much smaller storage and more accurate dosage.

About 3 months ago when the Co-op stopped selling the large boxes of Ariel Powder and had the Ariel Color tablets on offer as a replacment.

That was in my old much missed 6 year old Bosch Washer Dryer running on cold fill only, with the water flow reduction washers removed..your not the only one with lousy water pressure.

I tried them in the drawer and putting them in a “tablet net” in the drum, I had the same none disolving problem both ways, but if I broke up the tablets up in a plastic bag they disolved 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.

It probably isnt the water hardness thats causing it, Ariel would be innundated with complaints if they didnt desolve right in hard water, the only thing I could think of that might affect disolving is the excessive level of Chlorine Southern Water put in the supply round here.
