ParticipantHi ..old (at least year 2000 if not older) but gold machine we got as a “gift” from mother-in law about 5 years ago.
Whilst at some stage in cycle (don’t know I only try to fix the machines)..maybe on spin cycle..bit of a noise..wife says machine has stopped. Ok took side-panel off..belt has come off pulley..just hanging there. Ok put the belt back on the pulley/drum but notice its a Hoover branded belt? (38528-529 CC319 3F – written on it).
I left the side-panel off..ran machine.. but noticed that belt rides up (inwards) towards & onto the small rim (about 2mm)around the edge/circumference of the pulley…but not over it. Ran it through a couple of washes..works ok..but believe belt has probably lost a bit of tension so order the correct/new Hotpoint one (must say forgot abut out the shop here..and it was a bit pricey about £25 delivered…seen it cheaper since of course…doh!..but was a bit pushed for time).Stress here that the old Hoover belt has driven the thing no problem for 5 years. New Hotpoint belt arrives..notice its wider (yes the Hoover belt was a bit skinnier but I know it worked)..I fit the belt ..try it with side-panel off..it too rides up the rim a little but machine works fine. You know what’s coming..today bit of bad noise..machine stopped..take side-panel off & the new belt is round back of pulley/drum and not in 1 piece. I get it out/off..bugger!
Put on old Hoover belt..run it..& that too is thrown off the pulley/drum having ridden up and over the rim.
Why do peeps think this is happening..the new belt was deffo the right one for the machine..a Hutchinson belt seemed good quality (cost enough!)
ps know what I did to finish the wash..put a kink in the belt so v-section side contacts drive-pulley and the flat side of the belt contacts the drum/pulley..it works a treat but I suspect only because the belt has that extra tension from the twist..have run it through 2 spin cycles..no problem.
motor-bearing seems ok, drum/pulley seems ok..ie not out of true..but why has a new belt ridden up (and over) the rim ( and gotten chewed?
many thanks for reading what is a long post..but prefer to put in all the facts

Take a close look at the motor mounting especially the rear one! 😉
