Drum bangs on spin cycle, any suggestions???

Hi, I have a Zanussi 1220wd. Pretty old.

Last couple of runs it has made banging noises on revving up to and during spin cycle.

I’ve checked the suspension, springs and any obstructions spinning on an empty load on 500, 700, 900 and 1200 rpm. It made a slight noise on 1200. I then put in couple of dry towels and it me noises on 700. I also touched the inner drum drum lip and parts were very hot. I spun thbarrel and it seems slightly warped with respect to the rubber seal.

Any ideas? Is the bearing wearing out?

sounds like you drum spider has snapped. the weight of the drum is held up by a 3 arm spider. if one arm snaps through corrosion then it will be fine till it gets to spin under load when it will go out of line making noise and contacting the rubber or the outer drum. the friction then causes heat

time to scrap it I am afraid as I doubt spares are available

Thanks Dave for the input. I was reading similar on YouTube. I may have look and confirm the issue. Spares are available for this. Gonna check out espares.

£69. Pain in the bum to fit though by looking at some vids. My cut my losses. Anyway to confirm for sure it’s the spider?

its a big job and if you do go ahead its an idea to renew at least the water seal if not the complete bearing set while your in there. That is also the same age and while you have it apart not much extra time to fit
