Participantjust a general question. how do different people fit drum lifters in particular the later hotpoint ones? the wma were simple with a satisfying click as they locked into place. the later ones with the tag at right angles to the paddle are more troublesome. I have a small hook that I use with difficulty to insert through the top holes to lift the tab to stop the paddle sliding back and off. poor design if you ask me. someone I spoke to said just push them on and forget them but the last thing I want is a disconnected paddle and a tag shredding laundry.

If you just push them on they will come right off in no time at all.
Like you I use a small hooked wire but first I carefully push the tab flat and then bend/twist the tab so it sits at a slight angle sloping upwards, towards the back before I push the lifter home.
I then use the wire to try and pull the tab up a little more. The official fix for a broken tab is to drill a tiny hole in front of the lifter and fit a very short, stainless steel screw through the drum.

Drilling into wafer thin stainless will be challenging. I bet they don’t include a stainless screw either?

Oh yes they do, there is an official TB, with drill size and part number for the screw. 😛April 26, 2016 at 6:53 am #437308wilf

Had a trawl through all my files and can’t find a copy, it was a few years ago now, not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure I actually saved one. 🙁
It was only intend to be a last resort fix if the tab had broken off completely.April 26, 2016 at 12:06 pm #437310Martin

Probably a Size2x3/8 stainless steel screw but drilling into such a thin drum accurately and without incident challenging in the extreme.

have seen someone recommend pre drilling a small hole into the side of the new paddle in order to be able to insert a small screwdriver to lift the tab.
