    Hi

    BOSCH WAA28160GB

Washer has be working working well for a few years with no issues. It stopped turning one day and i quickly identified the brushes had worn down and one was no longer contacting. Replaced brushes and now the motor is working perfectly but running running super hot 80 C plus all the time.

    Have checked

Everthing is turning smothly and free
Brushes are the correct way round
Brushes are moving free and making good contact
Brush holders are in perfect condition
Plugs are fully engaged and crimps are good
Comutator has no shorts on any windings
    Cables are all good
Drum is not overfilling and causing drag

Is there a transister or cap that can go short circut and cause this. Possibly caused by the enevatable arcing caused when the orginal brushes worn out.

Advise would be greatfully recieved. Im sure this is a common issue.

Motors do run pretty warm at the best of times and “super hot” is not a condition I would describe as normal though I have never ‘taken a motor’s temperature’ before or felt the need TBH. The motor is protected with a safety thermal cutout embedded in the brush ring so if it were to overheat beyond normal expected levels that cutout would do just that. So, if it were getting too hot it would easily have gone by now.

If the motor is in such a perfect state as you describe I can’t see there being a problem. The greatest chance any motor has of overheating is excessive arcing of the brushes and its effect on the commutator. So if there are any signs at all of such arcing then that is your problem. Outside of that only long term excessive usage (ie non-stop washing sessions) would allow the motor to get pretty hot anyway….!
