    Guys,

I went to a VTD00 yesterday (oddly the third in a number of weeks). The issue was the drum was hitting the motor as it turned. Having had a look I diagnosed it as needing a drum shaft replacement kit (C00113038). I note that this instructions come with this.

My question is have I diagnosed it correctly? And are there any hints or tips you guys are aware of carrying out this work?

    Many thanks as always,

    Mark

If the drum was catching the motor then the rear bearing must have failed. Did you take the grey cover off the back of the machine? All will be revealed if you did.

Theres plenty on this site on how to tackle this job.
Lid off, side panel off. Drop fascia off and partially undo other side panel. Drum can then be removed. replace shaft put belt over drum. Refit drum etc, etc.

I use anextension bar to lever belt onto motor. But there is a proper tool available.

    Hope this helps.?

Did one of these a few days ago, I’m amazed that the new rear drum shaft never breaks with the amount of pressure needed to get the belt on!
Well worth checking the 4 plastic bearing pads.. As these are prone to coming loose, I usually just fit a complete maintenance kit… Rear bearing, shaft, pads, and felts..

The drum rear shafts break for fun on these, usually sliced right through.

Many thanks to all who replied.

Sorry to maybe ask a simple question the kit comes with a replacement drum shaft and three torx screws. The instructions mention replacing the drum shaft with the one in the kit THe drum shaft is riveted to the drum, do I assume that I’m going to need a whole new drum?

Never seen one that was riveted, could be a previous engineer job maybe?

You should be ok if you drill the old rivets out, remove the old shaft. Clean up the holes, and then fit the new shaft with the supplied screws..

Be careful not to enlarge the holes that you drill the rivets out of, as the screws may not have anything to grip on to if you do… There are 6 holes in all, but i think only three have a thread on them?

Make sure the drum hasn’t any damage where it’s been hitting the motor. Had this a few times.

Drum has been riveted to shaft for a couple of years now,had one or two that the shaft has ripped out of the drum like the Candy ones often do.

None of the holes in the new shaft are threaded to start with, the screws are Taptite screws that cut their own thread, there are only three holes that you should use though, fairly obvious which ones they are. 😉

If you look at a Taptite screw end on you will see that it is very slightly triangular shaped.

Not sure if the shape of the later riveted drums will allow you to drill out and refit with a screwed shaft assy. I did do this on one or two of the old Creda dryers that this machine is based on. They used to have riveted drums many years ago. Not tried to do one on this later drum yet.

If it is a VTD00 then its possible it has had a drum replacement at some time if it is riveted, or it could be an old drum from a Creda dryer. 😉
