I’ve got a 6 year old Siemens WM14S392GB/10. Recently it stopped spinning and an error code (F43) came-up. I replaced the carbon brushes, plugged it in and it worked on a test spin. Great – first time I’ve done changed them.

However during the 1st full test wash the drum stopped turning. I left it running to watch it. As it went onto spin there was a white spark and the circuit breaker tripped.

I checked the fuse – it was fine. I checked the belt – fine. Then I gingerly plugged it back in; the machine is as it was, ie it has power and will run a wash cycle, but the drum doesn’t turn. I’ve taken the motor out again and checked the brushes, all seem OK. Based on an eSpares video I used a voltmeter to check the motor. I didn’t get any kind of a reading from the terminals associated with the carbon brushes – although it may have been ‘user error’ on my part.

    Any advice?

take out the brushes again. make sure they dont stick in the holders and they are making contact with the armature
spin the motor by hand you may get a slight whine but if you get a clicking noisy you motor may have had it

to measure motor with a meter off the machine it has to be set to the ohms scale measure across the brushes first and if thats ok check it from the motor plug

Maybe the brushes are tight in the holders and making poor contact.
