ParticipantFirst post on here so apologies if I’m not in the right ball park.
I’ve got a Hotpoint WD865 condenser washer dryer which has just come out of its 12 month warranty, as ever!
I’ve already had the Hotpoint engineer out twice for the same problem. It would seem the fan belt or whatever it is that drives the dryer fan worked loose and thus during the drying cycle, the fan would not function, the machine would quickly get very hot (heat not been pumped into drum) and would error and end. Previously the engineer suggested possible overloading and a less than suitable design.
In the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed the “auto sensor” has packed up (perhaps caused by excessive heat due to fan issues above) and the fan has again stopped working, as evidence by lack of fan noise.
I opened the top of the machine. I was tempted to remove the 5-6 screws securing the metal cover of the heating duct but with all the various electrical connections felt it maybe not quite as simple as taking off, quick fix and putting back again.
However, the engineer was carried out the repairs on both previous occasions in barely a couple of minutes and thus must be simple and I’m loathed to spend the cost on something so quick and already fixed twice before.
I wrote to Hotpoint to complain at the same problem occuring twice within 12 months given I’ve always vigorously followed Hotpoint’s own loading instructions.
Anyone got any suggestions.
Many thanks

‘overloading’ total nonsense, the clothes do not come into any contact whatsoever with the dryer assy or the fan and could not possibly cause the fan to come loose, ( no belt BTW the fan is fixed to the fan motor with a small nut & lockwasher)
‘less than suitable design’ now you are talking 😥 , what you have is a Hotpoint machine with an Indesit dryer assembly ( and awful Indesit electronics to boot).
If the fan keeps coming loose then it would seem that the problem lies with the fan motor shaft and fixing nut.I have seen the odd wire pull off the fan motor but have not as yet seen a fan come loose. Also if the fan was loose the engineer would have had to remove the top of the heater box to refit the fan to the motor, not really possible in 5 minutes. Also, if the heater terminals are about six or seven inches ( don’t do metric) apart, as opposed to both heater terminals being close together then you have the old type heater and duct assembly which has been considerably modified to cure constant stat failure.
You may be better off looking for a reliable independant engineer. Try the link in my sig. Remember you do have a five year parts guarantee but would have to pay the Indecent Company almost £90.00 for the labour.
Plug out at all times if you have the lid off.

Thank you very much for your prompt and useful reply. I’ll re-read it a little later when time allows but it would seem I need to get somebody in. But your thoughts and guidance are much appreciated.
