Hi Guy’s: Was asked to disconnect / re-connect an Electric cooker for a customer, when I get there I find a built in Electric oven & Gas hob. Gas hob has been piped in direct, told the customer that I was’nt getting involved as you need to be Gas safe registered & we don’t touch Gas. Quite specific about that on our advertising, anyway as you can imagine customer now creating hell because I won’t touch it. Just wondering for future reference what would be the position if it had a Bayonet fitting, do you still need to be gas safe to disconnect / re-connect ? I would have thought so but not totally sure about it.

Yes you do.. But you can suggest that the client/customer disconnect the bayonet themselves (as that is not illegal for them to do)

Cheers George, thought that was the case but wanted to confirm it. Customers are so thick it’s unbelievable, says Electrical Appliance Engineers in big letters across the top of the Flyers she got my number from. Pointed that out to her & she says oh I thought you must have forgotten to put Gas down, I give up.

Just a quickie. Hobs cannot be connected via a flexi anymore unless it specifically states so in the installation instructions. If you find one on a flexi its not to current standards.

    Never, ever did that.

Some customer had to show me in the instructions for one that it could be fitted on a flexi before I’d do it.

    Just doesn’t seem right somehow.
