    I’m not saying that the TA should say it should be one way or t’other, I’m merely playing Devil’s Advocate here and trying to look, as I usually try to do, from the various angles with a “what if…” attitude.

    If I were the TA the stance I would take would be very simple…

    “Whilst you are legally entitled to do this sort of work without being a CORGI RGI and membership of the TA is unaffected by whether you choose to undertake electrical work only on gas appliances or not, we do not recommend it to members due to…”

    Then explain the concerns and why not’s to people as well as publishing the response from CORGI. That way everyone knows the score, it’s an informed and balanced presentation of the facts with the best possible advice given.

    It also doesn’t condone anything one way or the other, merely presents the bones of the thing and allows people to trade the way that they like within the confines of the law. The short of it is that, whilst the law may well allow it, it may also serve to hang you as well with the same legislation. You have to love our justice system.
