Hello, wonder if you can help. Just over a year ago I bought a fridge-freezer from MFI (Never again…..)
About 2 minutes after the guarantee expired, do did the fridge. There’s no name, but there is a model number. APM 6823. I suspect it’s a Hygena unit?
MFI have not been very helpful, the instructions that came with the fridge seem to me to contradict themselves; so that I find it impossible to say with any certainty how, or if, the thermostat functions….
I’ve a feeling that the ‘stat has gone, and wonder if you can let me know the rough cost/availability of a suitable replacement? I’ve been quoted around £150 by one dealer, which seems a wee bit extortionate….
Any help will be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mike

There is no thermostat as such in this model as it is controlled electronically.

The £150 estimate you were given is correct as the control pcb is £118 inc VAT just for the part from MFI. The part however can be obtained from the manufacturer, Brandt for about £80 inc VAT.

That should give you some idea of possible costs, best to ask an engineer to attend though as we are only assuming that the pcb is at fault.

    Mike,

That’s an integrated frost free model that is PCB controlled, I suspect you’ve been quoted for the PCB unit which is listed at £100.39 excl VAT. I’d suggest getting someone in that specialises in all honesty.

Thanks Dave and kwatt, that’ll help me feel a bit better about what’s going to be a large bill!
    The site is really excellent.

🙂 Thanks guys I suppose you are long gone, but you have saved me the cost of a new machine, or an expensive engineers bill. This APM 6823 stopped freezing, why? Because it needed de-frosting! Thanks again
