ParticipantI have re-visited for the 3rd time a 20 year old cooker to replace duel element.
can do them in my sleep
1st visit..replace element..operate for 1 minute RCD trips..remove element TESt down to earth
get new replacement from supplier..cunning plan Megger befroe leaving shop, pick up 2 both test ok
2nd and 3rd visit to cooker
replace with one of new elements..same as befotre 1 min max pop goes RCD
replace with second element..same problem both pop and go down to earth
in the meantime voltage test both circuits for correct voltage..trip stays ,voltage fine 239v
so 4 elemnts all from same supplier..all going to earth when voltage is applied after 1 minute
I am convinced there is nothing wrong with the cooekr circuits!!!
WHAT ODDS WOULD WILLIAM HILL GIVE ON this failure rate
are we getting a load of cheap crap from China
anyone else suffering similar problems

Yeah, i believe it to be bad insulation on element & what I do is run element with just live & neutral without earth connection ( to dry out element ) . * don’t let anyone near appliance that you are working at during this test period of course.
I find that once you get that done theres no problem & you can connect earth connection after 5 mins or so.May 23, 2007 at 12:55 pm #214544electrofix

Quality control??? Costs money that does. Leave it to the poor engineer to sort it: red-faced in front of the customer. I’ve had this many times; now I always megger the elements before putting them in stock and ‘cook up’ as necessary. Works 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time. Other 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}…….. 😈 😈
Wastes everybody’s time and money. Who benefits?Steve.

ParticipantIf the store is damp there’s not a lot you can do other than cook’em.
