So been getting E03 for some time on and off, and now if seems more permanent.

The pump is still working, but I am wondering if the machine is detecting that it isn’t working as it should?

Don’t want to spend for a new pump if the main board is faulty so just wondered what people’s experiences are?

on some machines this error can occur if the heater is going faulty

Thanks Dave, while in there I checked the heater and it showed an insulation resistance of over 10MR.

hmm… I’ll disconnect see what happens!

So today the machine decided to die. I am an electronics eng. by trade (admittedly washing machines are not my thing) but I know enough to be able to establish that the micro has died, taken out by the thyristor that drives the seperate wash pump. Why they didn’t bloody isolate the output pin the the triac is beyond me, economics I guess :-/

Anyway I guess this could have been an indicator to the fault above. How removing the element helped I don’t know!

The micro is actually a standard ATMEL processor, so was wondering if I repaired the bits I knew were wrong, is anyone able to reprogram the board? I know it’s a long shot but it’s been a tough few months with only a single wage coming in so could do with saving the money atm!

when you say died do you mean it wont function or no life at all

electrofix Hi Dave the front panel shows the led’s circling along with animated LCD as if powering up, but it just continues – suspected it wasn’t getting comms from the mainboard. Just powered the board up on my bench and the micro has definitely failed. The Triac that switches the wash motor has failed internally, so any isolation has probably broken down and zapped the micro. They could isolate the triac with a component costing pence but choose not to for economy I guess!!!!

I can replace both parts easily as both are available off the shelf from the likes of RS etc… I will just need someone who is able to program the main board with the relevant software! I suspect, that will be the difficult bit though 🙁

programming is an ongoing issue. As an independant we have no access to the software library’s or the programming gear so have to buy pre programmed board or as in the case of Hotpoint scrap it or tell them to call Hotpoint as they dont sell pre programmed boards

Is there no way to dump the firmware from the existing board, or is it protected from this? What is the exact number of the Atmel chip?
