Dyson DC01 – Cuts out when warm for 3 hours

This ancient Dyson has served well but cuts out when it gets too warm – usually on warm days or after say cleaning carpets for over 30 minutes.
When this happened a lot last year Dyson said ‘just leave it for 3 hours’ and this still works but there must be a problem to fix? Is there a thermal cut-out to replace perhaps. I do any work on appliances with them isolated from the mains and unplugged.

Sounds as if the motor is overheating & operating thr temperature cut out, chect that filters are not blocked up.
