ParticipantAny help please..
Wife using Dyson – Dyson just cut out..now it will not switch on – tested cable with meter tester to the switch and there are no breaks .
Dyson just over 3 years old – not had a lot of use – filter changed often – no sparking of motor or nasty smells..
Were do I look next – any help would be appreciated.

All you’ve got is wire-switch-wire-motor, so from switch to motor, then motor itself. Bear in mind that there are two circuits through the motor – field coils and armature.
Stay safe, power off.

KeymasterSwitch itself then motor most likely.

Big thank you -Please tell me if correct
I have tested the switch with the meter and get a make and break connection – thus what you expect from a switch – please tell me are they just simple switches or do they contain thermal cutout/overload bits.

KeymasterNa, generally they’re pretty dumb thing, simple on or off switching 240VAC on a vac. Vacs are cheap things in the main and not terribly complex.
I’d be looking at the motor to be honest. Sometimes (although I’m not familiar with Dyson too much) there is also a TOC (Thermal Overload Cutout) on the motor which cuts the juice if the motor temperature rises too much and that can pop. These days though it has been my experience that you’ve no chance of getting a TOC and you’ll only get a full motor.
The good news there is that there are non-Dyson lower cost alternatives, although they tend to be the same thing in a different box and Dave knows all about such things. If you suss the part then a quick mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should get you result. 😉
Dysons, some anyway, where famous for the motors going if the filters were not replaced or cleaned regularly, so that may be your cause.
Hope that helps.

If it is the motor, could you check where it has Ametek or YDK on it please as Dyson used two different types on the DC01 (and most other models). 🙂
