Anyone tell me why my wife’s Dyson DC04 drops vacuum intermittently? The way she gets it going again is to whack the cylinder with the palm of her hand with some force.
The fault is most obvious when vacuuming a “mixed” floor where the machine has to go from, say, carpet to tiles.
    TIA

The switch is faulty inside the motor cover, thus only giving you half power/speed.

    Apologies for the late reply.

Thanks for the excellent advice. I should have looked at bit closer at the machine & I might have spotted the switch 🙂
I’m hoping that by putting a couple of layers of masking tape on the dust collector to push the switch in further will fix the fault.
If not, how do you change the switch?

    BTW this is a DC04 Zorbster S/No. 065UK 012155

    Brush bar out
    Brush housing out
2x plastic circlips off either side of cleaner head
    Cleaner head off
    Hepa filter out
    6x torx 15 screws out

    You then have access.

That seems a lot of hassle but thanks anyway. I’m glad to say the masking tape fix seems to have worked.
What’s the switch for? Is it just used to drop the vacuum when the dust collector is taken off?

    No
It’s to do with the application of the zorb.

    Thanks for the info.
As the zorb feature has never been used I think I’ll leave the tape holding the switch down.
