ParticipantHi everyone,
Hope someone might be able to help. I have the above Dyson and it is about 5 years old now. I was hoovering for a short time the other day and then it completely died.It hadn’t overheated, it hadnt been on long enough and Ive tried it since anyway and it wasnt blocked. I have checked it all over and washed the filter, just in case. The roller bar and the belt are both ok. There were no funny noises or smells before it stopped working and it was picking up fine before it died.
It has worked fine for 5 years and never had anything wrong with it other than changing the belt once before.
Any ideas?
Do I need to replace the non washable filter under the bin?
Or could it be the cyclone bit itself?
Would either of these being clogged up cause the dyson to just die?
Or could it be electrical?
Sorry there is so many questions and thankyou for reading.Cara

Hi
I would say you have a fault with the motor.
How long ago was it that you washed the filters (from the time before)?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
It has probably been at least a year since I last washed the premotor filter. But I have never changed the post motor filter didnt even know there was one until I started searching on the net.
Do you think I should change the post motor filter before thinking about changing the motor?

Good at least your honest,Lack of washing the prefilter has caused your problem.
The post filter is just an air filter,so has no effect on suction at all.January 18, 2011 at 7:06 pm #341606caracroft

Can’t beleive a motor fault has been diagnosed at first point of action, because I’ve had faulty switches and broken leads stop these cleaners working.
