What is the difference between a standard dyson hoover and an ‘animal’ hoover? I know one is clearly suitable for animals but what additional features are included. The reason I ask is a family suffers from allergys and I wondering wherther the animal model may be better?

The difference is a small turbo brush. The animal model will have HEPA filters, but so have some no-animal ones.
If there are allergy sufferers may I recommend Sebo, cleaner to empty, hospital standard S-class filtration, they also pick up the allergen properly from carpetting and finally it will last a good number of years.
Out of all the vacuums I have come across Dyson are some of the worst. The absolute best is Sebo.HTH,

No such thing as a Dyson hoover, its a vacuum cleaner. 😉
Miele Cat & Dog or SEBO vacs are vastly superior to Dyson products in every way and often not as expensive.

I am really sorry if you do not want to hear this but…………….
When new Dysons work fairly well, but give them between 2-4 months in the average house, the cyclones accumulate fine dust, which detracts from its efficiency and losing suction, but as this is a gradual process, you won’t notice. Also life time? filters clog even when washed, there is no better option than disposable. The only way to sort out this is to replace the filters and cyclone unit which is alot more expensive than buying bags.
The only Dysons that were good was the DC01 and DC02, as they were simple and you replaced the filters.
From the DC03 onwards the performace declined some what.
People think Dysons pick up alot as they areate (sp) the dirt in the cylinder making it look more. If you pick up a full cylinders worth of dirt with a bagged vacuum, it will less than half fill the bag, assuming the bag is 4 litres like the average Dysons capacity.

The 19t2 comes with two turbine heads,one mini for stairs and the car and the main turbine head for carpets.
Both great bits of kit but you must make sure your filters are washed to maintain suction through the tools.
IMO dyson do make the best bagless machine if it’s bagless you want.Dave

Both filters are washableOur 8 year old DC04 absolute is still sucking the pattern off the carpet. our new DC025 animal is sucking the carpet off the floor. As I am allergic to dust, pollen and have asthma. the hepper filter on both have made a very noticeable difference.

To go back to the original question, as far as the machine goes there is no difference in performance between the standard Dysons and the Animals. The only differences are that the Animals have a HEPA filter (which you only really need if you have allergy sufferers in the household) and the Animal tool. Even the Animal tools aren’t really designed wholey for Animals but they can be very handy for stairs and car footwells. You could always buy one seperately if you want one though.
I think the Dysons are pretty good. My first still worked a treat when we upgraded it after 5 years of (ab)use! The second (a DC14) is going strong too. I have to agree, Dyson are slick at marketing but that’s not to say that they dion’t make very good vacuum cleaners. They’re pretty loud though.

Edit: Sorry, I missed your comment about the allergy – so definately go for one with a HEPA filter.
