ParticipantHi Everyone
I have one of the Dyson Contrarotor washing machines. It works really well except that the bearing (main drum bearing i presume) has become noisy.
Ive never changed a main bearing before, is it an easy task, or would i need special tools, – bearing pullers etc.
Also are main bearings available for Dyson machines?Any help and thoughts welcomed

Hi Mike,
I doubt anyone would know in all honesty when it comes to Dyson washing machines, unless there’s a Dyson engineer lurking on here.
The reason being that Dyson are VERY protective of both spares and servicing information, added to which they didn’t really sell that many of those machines so there wasn’t much call for the independent trade to be bothering with them.
I have looked inside one though and it wasn’t a job I’d have fancied doing.

We also have a dyson contrarotator which had faulty bearings, i had been advised previously by a dyson engineer that the repair was a full new tub and drum assembly as bearings are not “field replaceable”, something to do with the torque setting on the bolts. your best bet is to phone dyson and pay the £85 fixed fee repair, if you have looked after your machine they may fix it for a reduced cost as agoodwill gesture, ours was free as the bearings went after 2200 cycles and 4.5 years.
it took 2 engineers 2 hours to change the bearings, machine in its component parts on the patio.April 27, 2009 at 8:55 am #284994cockney steve

As they get older, more and more of these Dyson machines seem to be appearing on Fleabay.
I recently had a look at a review-site (OK, I’m a saddo 😳 ) The concensus seems to be that spares are running low at Dyson HQ and the end is in sight for many. It was also rumoured that the drum/tub manufacturer had ceased production, so maybe Dyson didn’t get the moulds ,or setup to restart was not viable.
Great concept but rushed onto the market at an inflated price without sufficient field-testing and development.
I hate to think how much they lost on each machine that the owners persevered with.

Au contraire, mon ami. 😉
I think you’ll find that these cars sacrifice longevity for light-weight and maximum performance (output)
It’s generally accepted that a racing-car is at it’s most efficient in the narrow service-life between “run-in” and “clapped-out” 😯 😈
perhaps you’re right, after all!
