ParticipantThe Circulating Pump runs fine on the bench. All other functions: water fill to first level, Drain pump, detergent tablet release work fine.
The circ pump does not kick in so no water to the spray arms.
I’ve stripped of the tubes and blown down them but they did not operate the pressure switch.
The pressure switch has a clear plastic tube that runs from the switch to the Sump See Photo 19 it curls up the machine over a hook and then back down to the sump you can just see where it connects on the left side of the sump Photo 21, there is what looks like a white tube sticking up. When I remove it from there and blow down it the pressure switch operates.
So what happens is this
I switch on and the machine fills to the first level which you can see in the plastic labyrinth see photo 17. The selector ticks around to the point where the pump should kick in but does not. If I operate the selector manually I can take it through the whole cycle. At the point where the water should be at maximum to cover the heating element it fills ok but I did not wait for it to stop filling. I just checked by opening the door to the point where it flowed over the kitchen floor.
The larger black tubes from the labyrinth all connect to various Plastic containers One to the top of the machine Photo 19 presumably to monitor steam pressure.
One goes to the salt container, another goes from the container which is part of the salt container but contains a light brown solid substance and from there to the other side of the sump
None of the black tubes operate the pressure switch when blown down only the clear plastic one.
Don’t know how to post the photos but can send by email if required
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

A make would help as would some explanation of the references to photos.
Bench testing a motor, tut tut, not a wise thing to do with no load on it.

To post photos you can use any of these free image hosting web sites, follow the simple instructions and copy the pictures url’s into your post.
Jim.
PS. Please don’t post all 21 😯September 25, 2007 at 9:47 pm #228158xertahouse

Thanks Kwatt and Iadom
I would not dream of posting 21 photos. they were taken and sent to a friend of mine in the business. He suggested that I post to this site as the the best that could be found on the web. I would love to give you the make. Unfortunately it is a supermarket job made in china. However as everthing now seems to be made in China etc there has to be common parts to all such appliances whatever the brand.
I do not agree that bench testing for 5 seconds is the wrong thing to do. It proves that its not the circulating pump that is wrong but that the pump is not receiving the correct instructions.
Thinking about it I dont see any point in posting the photos anyway because you guys know these machine inside out and backwards.
It might be better to list what I have not checked
1. The wire loom through the door
2. Whether or not the tubes to the sump are clear
3. Whether or not the connections to the mechanical Timer, (Uniselecter or whatever the current term is for the for the control by which you set the wash cycle you want) are good.
This Uknown machine is 2 years old and I am not taking it to the tip unless i really have to, so do your best guys

Made in China and unbranded it’s likely Haier or Midea made, both cr4p IMHO and the tip is pretty much where they’re most at home. However, there are various models which do differ and we need to know what it is to answer accurately, hence the need for that information.
What was the original problem with it, as in, how did it fail and what where the symptoms?
Circ pumps don’t fail that often on them unless the base fills with water and shorts it out. Wiring looms, not a big point of failure. Timers/PCBs, yes, they do fail. Overfilling, yes, usually due to customer error I’m afraid.
But some of the above is very model dependent.

You could at least post a picture of the machine from the front with the door open, that may give us a clue. Or any numbers you can find on a rating plate.
The mechanical, electrical and electronic variations between one manufacturer and another, or even within one particular brand of dishwasher is so great that we really do need some idea of the make to help you.
It is true to say that there is much more conformity in the way most washing machines work in comparison to a dishwasher.
That said, if it is really Chinese then it has done well to last two years, its already close to its ‘scrap by date’ 😥
Jim.
PS. Whilst I do not touch Chinese dishwashers :rolls: , if you want to e-mail me a couple of pictures I will post them up in the hope that someone may recognise it.

If this is the usual Indesit-derived Chinese stuff…….
1/ The pump won’t start until the water level switch trips.
2/ An “unloaded” circulation pump motor may well run on the bench, but not with water. If the start run capacitor is failing, it won’t get the umpy required to start under load.
3/ The water level should not cover the element. It should be below the element, probably nudging up to the base of the salt cap. There is really only one humane solution:

Point it to the East……..Penguin45.
