KeymasterFor the sake of speed I’m going to do this for Lawrence.
The WTA has been asked by Graham Dixon to ask members to support a scheme known as EEE-Safe, the breakdown of this is here is simple terms:
EEE-Safe is to be designed to address the Lack of Regulation on Workmanship and Safety.
This being similar in nature to that of GasSafe and Fgas whereby only registered personnel are allowed to work in a specific sector.
The name we are putting forward is EEE-Safe – Electrical & Electronic Equipment Safe – a COMPETENT WORKERS SCHEME.
Currently there is no requirement by law for a license to Practice for White Goods Repairs or Refurbishing and therefore little if no protection for consumers or competent independent service providers.
Essentially currently anyone can do this job and in doing so potentially endanger consumers and their homes.
An EEE-Safe type standard can provide a solution and give peace of mind to Consumers that an EEE-Safe Engineer not only knows what they are doing to an industry set standard but their working practices ensure ReUse and Recycling Methods are employed and that where possible, contributions are made for goods not viable for repair to go in to Charitable and Social Enterprise organisations to benefit communities and not simply for scrap.
Sector Skills Council
The Sector Skills Council responsible for the NOS (National Occupational Standards) is supportive of this idea, although a few tweaks may need to be made during a ‘Pilot Study’, after which the National Occupational Standards can be uploaded and approved.
Awarding Body
A Major awarding Body is also prepared and highly motivated to Bespoke this Qualification in tandem with the NOS’s (National Occupational Standards) and the SSC (Sector Skills Council).
The Trade
The two main Trade Bodies representing the Domestic Appliance Repair Sector are also willing to support this idea and have committed to engage and get involved.
EEE-Safe simply means an individual will have been assessed to a standard that identifies both technical and practical knowledge relating to the range of electrical appliances they are to work on.
It is proposed that it has a high percentage of practical assessment allied to ‘relevant’ technical depth.
This could be attained by gaining the new QCF levels 2 and/or 3 and/or by an industry regulated system of assessment (QCF level 1) ‘Competent Worker Scheme’ carried out in conjunction with members and trade associations such as DASA and the WTA via a proposed ASA (Appliance Skills Academy).
Here’s the big ask…
Can you possibly get back a response along the lines of:
To whom it may concern,
As a company or business (delete as required) providing quality service to the domestic appliance service sector we support the concept of the “Competent Persons Scheme” EEE-Safe.
The general public and service providers are in need of such a scheme that brings an industry recognised quality standard to the benefit of all.
Yours Sincerely
…to Graham ASAP, preferably before Monday on email to: graham@dixontraining.co.uk
The idea is that we get a simple and easy to achieve certificate of competence which is recognised by UK and EU government.
