ParticipantHi all,
I have just bought a house with a six ring Elba Excellence range oven (not sure where to find model no) and the electric oven isn’t working.
I have set the clock, but when setting a temp and function the pilot light doesn’t come on and no heat comes from the oven.
Rang the previous owner who said they had the clock replaced but they don’t know by who, and it hasn’t worked for a couple years.
Any ideas would be much appreciated and hopefully I can fix it myself.
Thanks in advance,
Richard

Hi Richard,
It does sound clock related and generic instructions on how to set the timer are here:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fix- … -dead.html
Often if an oven doesn’t work at all it will be the clock or timer not set to run on manual, it’s set up on a timer, but there are other reasons for it to be dead.
For example an overheat thermostat, wiring, switch and so on.
If you have a hunt for the model number I or one of the guys may be able to help more. Usually you’ll find it inside an oven door or a storage drawer on a small plate or sticker.

Excellent Thankyou!
I’ll check tomorrow when I get back as im away tonight.
When I set the clock it does show the symbol on it which according to the manual means I should be able to heat it up, but nothing happens.
Will be in touch,
Richard

Also the fan doesn’t work if that narrows it down…

If the timer is set to manual and both the elements and fans aren’t working then it’s likely a thermal limiter or switch issue.

Can’t find a model number so browsed the net looking for one that looks the same and found this:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit … cmd=VIDESC
Looks to be the px906, same button layout as mine and the clock is in the same position.
thanks for your help guys.

I wouldn’t do that if I were you.
Let me put it this way, all Ford Mondeos look the same too but they use lots of different parts. Same thing, different industry.

Ahh…
Unfortunately the model number has been scratched off, is there another way I could tell?

Not really, no.
It’s a part thing as the process is Manufacturer>Model>Part Number
Break any one of those and you’re pretty much stuffed most of the time as without a model number or brand you can’t even begin to look, it’s just a guess unless you get someone that just happens to know the model.
Even within a range there can be many different variants otherwise, there’d be no point in having different models with different features at different prices in different colours. They’d just all be the same if that weren’t the case.
The differences may not seem all that great to someone not familiar with the industry but, it’s the difference between getting the correct part and something that may not be fitted to your model or, even potentially dangerous because it is incorrect.
So as an example, if you need a cooling fan, What models have cooling fans fitted, which ones don’t and you need that to get to the part number so you get the correct part. Same for switches, thermostats and so on. Without the model number you nor we have any clue what parts are fitted, aren’t or what they are.
Elements and hinges tend to be a bit more generic but, on occasion, not much.
