ParticipantCould anyone advise, please?
Yesterday evening, main oven in cooker failed, tripping the main fusebox.
Rest of oven works fine, oven fan works too, but no heat.
* Is this likely to be element or safety thermostat?
* Are parts available? (I couldn’t find the safety thermostat listed for that model on this site)
* Is the repair within ordinary diy capabilities, or do I need an engineer?
Thanks v much.July 30, 2011 at 11:21 am #356156mcnash

elba are made by delonghi, more than likely the circular element has gone, tripping your fuse

Great – thanks v much, washtronics.
Had lots of fun dismantling cooker (removal of back required), and confirmed damage to element.
Will replace.August 4, 2011 at 7:37 pm #356159mcnash

Element replaced, but oven still not working.
Any thoughts please? (Fan still working as before)August 9, 2011 at 6:59 pm #356160Jonah

If it has a selector switch (different oven settings) it will need replacing along with the complete wiring loom, common fault with Elba/De Longhi range cookers

Thanks for the suggestion, Dave.
The only control on the main oven is the temperature control. Could this be the problem? (there is a selector switch on the upper oven, but that oven works fine)August 10, 2011 at 8:40 pm #356162Jonah

Both ovens will have a selector switch, this switches on different components depending on what is set by you with what the oven can do, the thermostat for each oven is connected to each selector switch this whole assembly then controls which elements, light or fan is switched on and the thermostat controls the temperature in the oven there after, if any of these components fail then your oven will not work correctly.
If you have changed the fan element (round one by the fan) without electrically testing it (resistance about 25ohms)and it still won’t work then you have probably wasted your money on an element, the fault will more than likely be with selector switch or any over heat safety thermostat fitted, hope this helps.August 10, 2011 at 10:02 pm #356163mcnash

Thanks, Dave – very helpful.
Element looked as though it had failed (there was damage similar to the photos on this site), but perhaps it blew the selector when it failed, or vice versa? Either way, I suspect changing the loom etc is going to be too big a job for me. Time for professional help.August 22, 2011 at 8:45 pm #356164mcnash

Problem turned out to be a failed thermostat.
Thanks for the advice, all. -
